What is mobile app development, and who is it for?
Mobile app development at Techmode means one cross-platform codebase shipped to both the Play Store and the App Store, with M-Pesa payments and offline behaviour designed in. It suits businesses whose customers or field staff need the thing in their hand daily. From KSh 450,000, in six to twelve weeks.
Android and iOS apps built with the latest cross-platform technology (React Native / Expo) — one codebase, both stores, with M-Pesa and mobile-money integration built in. From MVP to scale, we build apps Kenyans actually want to use.
The problem
What this actually costs you.
Our repeat customers order every week and still have to start from the website each time.
Field staff fill paper forms and type them up in the evening.
We were quoted twice, once for Android and once for iPhone.
What we build
The outcome, not the deliverable.
We scope every engagement around results you can measure — not line items that sit on a shelf.
- Reach customers on the device they use most
- Accept payments with M-Pesa & cards
- Launch on both stores from one codebase

| When | The old way | With Techmode |
|---|---|---|
| A regular customer wants to reorder | Find the website, log in, rebuild the basket, retype the delivery address. | Open the app, tap reorder, confirm with M-Pesa. |
| A field officer records a visit | Paper form now, data entry tonight, corrections next week. | Captured on the phone, held safely if there is no signal, synced when there is. |
| You want to tell customers something | A broadcast that most people never see. | A push notification to people who chose to install you. |

- Interactive designs you can tap through before the build starts
- One React Native codebase, built and released to both stores

- Submission to both stores, including the review cycle, which we manage
Timeline
6–12 weeks, week by week.
Weeks 1–2
Scope and design
We cut version one to what earns its place, then design it as a tappable prototype you sign off.
Weeks 3–8
Build
Two-week cycles, with a build on your own phone at the end of each, so you are never seeing it for the first time at the end.
Weeks 9–10
Payments, offline and testing
M-Pesa, notifications, offline behaviour, and testing across the cheaper Android devices most Kenyan users actually carry.
Weeks 11–12
Store submission
Listings, screenshots, privacy declarations and the review process for both stores. Review time is Apple's and Google's, not ours.
Investment
From KSh 450,000, and what moves it.
Mobile App Development projects start at KSh 450,000 and typically run 6–12 weeks. Every project is scoped and priced in writing before any work begins — the figure below is a starting point, not a quotation.
What pushes the price up
- Live features — tracking, chat, anything that has to update as it happens
- Integrating with an older back-office system that was never built to be called
- Hardware: barcode scanning, printing, background location
What keeps it down
- A tight version one, released, then extended on evidence
- Building on an API we also built, or a modern one that already exists
- Accepting the platform's standard patterns instead of a bespoke interface
Third-party costs — hosting, WhatsApp conversation fees, app store accounts — are yours and are named up front. See how we price for the full picture.

Mobile App Development, answered.
How much does an app cost in Kenya?
Ours start at KSh 450,000 for a focused version one on both platforms. Live tracking, chat, or integration with an older internal system push it higher. We scope and price in writing before any build begins.
Android and iPhone — do I have to pay twice?
No. We build in React Native, so one codebase produces both apps and a change ships to both at once. You still need the two developer accounts, which are Google's and Apple's fees, not ours.
Can the app take M-Pesa payments?
Yes, through the Safaricom Daraja API — the customer confirms an STK push on their phone and the app updates when the callback arrives. We also handle the case where the callback is slow or never comes.
Will it work when the network drops?
That is a design decision we make with you, not an afterthought. For field apps we hold entries on the device and sync when a connection returns. For lighter apps we make the failure visible and recoverable rather than silent.
How long does the app store review take?
Apple usually reviews within a day or two and Google is often faster, but a rejection on a first submission is common and adds a cycle. We prepare the listing to avoid the usual causes and handle the back and forth if it happens.
